The EU might “act quickly and firmly” in response to what it deems “unjustified” visa bans issued by the United States on five Europeans working on combating online hate and disinformation, an EU official stated.
EU Officials Condemn US Move as ‘Intimidation’
European leaders including Emmanuel Macron charged the US administration of “bullying and threats”, after the visa restrictions were placed on individuals who have been central to efforts to enact laws regulating American tech companies.
“For far too long, European activists have spearheaded organised efforts to pressure US companies to punish US perspectives they disagree with,” stated the US secretary of state in a social media post. “This government will not stand for these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”

Germany, Spain, the UK and a chorus of EU officials supported the French president in condemning the move.
